Virtually all large and medium sized businesses, at some point, need access to the New York judicial system. It’s also not uncommon for smaller businesses and individuals to become involved in litigation in the New York state and federal courts. Many contracts contain choice of law provisions requiring that legal disputes be litigated in New York state and federal courts.
Our office assists in the representation of litigants within the State of New York. Most commonly, we act as New York local counsel supporting out-of-state attorneys representing their clients in New York. Invariably, we make a pro hac vice motion allowing an out-of-state attorney to appear in court throughout the course of the litigation. At that point, we often monitor the case and guide out of state counsel through the procedural rules of the New York courts. Depending on the needs of the client, we sometimes become involved in developing a litigation strategy, making court appearances, conducting discovery and trying cases. In addition to assisting out-of-state counsel, we also directly represent individuals and businesses as lead counsel in New York civil litigation. We also handle judgment enforcement and motions to confirm/vacate arbitrations awards in New York. Our goal is to preserve and enhance the representation of your clients involved in New York litigation. |
